Chris DeBacker is an intellectual property attorney with a background in architectural engineering. Since 2009, he has advised clients on patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets across a wide range of industries, including mechanical and electrical systems, agricultural technologies, medical devices, software, consumer products, toys, and games.
In patent prosecution, Chris brings extensive experience with CAD and 3D modeling, often preparing his own drawings to ensure accuracy and alignment with final product designs. He works with inventors and companies at every stage, including first-time innovators, start-ups, and established businesses, providing guidance on manufacturing, marketing, licensing, and royalty agreements.
On the litigation side, Chris has represented clients in enforcing patent rights, defending against infringement claims, and navigating trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings. He has also helped secure and maintain hundreds of trademarks and service marks.
Chris enjoys teaching newcomers the fundamentals of protecting their ideas and is passionate about making intellectual property accessible to all creators.
Outside of work, Chris enjoys cycling, weight training, and exploring the world with his wife and two sons.
