Hissan is an electrical engineer with over a decade of experience as an intellectual property attorney. He provides strategic patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret counseling to a wide range of public and private companies. Hissan is a member of Avek IP, LLC. He was previously a partner at a national law firm, and he was a founding member of Avant Law Group (a predecessor to Avek IP).

In patent prosecution, Hissan focuses on electrical, mechanical, and software applications. Example technologies include: gas turbines; aircraft and automobile parts; shipping labels, cards, and other printable products; smart thermostats; oil well drilling technologies; bullets; earphones; seat covers; lighting systems; portable and large scale power generation systems; radar systems; vehicle navigation systems; agricultural devices; printers; regenerative dryers; and several different types of computer implemented methods.

Hissan has substantial experience with AIA post grant proceedings, and has represented clients in dozens of inter partes reviews.

Hissan also routinely counsels clients on intellectual property litigation matters, particularly in cases involving infringement, enforcement, and licensing issues. Prior to founding Avant, Hissan was a partner at an Am Law 200 firm. Before law school, Hissan worked in the transmission and distribution group of a national engineering consulting firm. Hissan has also worked as a programmer for a microelectronic solutions company.

In his free time, Hissan enjoys spending time with his three kids, and playing tennis, pool, and ping pong.
