U.S. Patent & Trademark Office
Jake Chappell is a registered patent agent with a background in mechanical engineering. He served as a mechanical patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, specializing in vehicle and aircraft control, navigation and mapping software, robotics, and general autonomous systems. As a former examiner, he is experienced in patent searching, patentability analysis, and overcoming USPTO rejections.
Before joining the USPTO and AVEK IP, he studied mechanical engineering with an emphasis in biomedical engineering. While at university, he led a team of student engineers developing a novel self-tightening prosthetic socket for amputees. After graduation, he became an R&D engineer for an infection control company, where he invented and developed products to combat disease transmission during the Covid-19 pandemic. His work included products implementing HEPA filtration devices and autonomous applications of next-generation far-UVC light. These products can be found in hospitals around the nation, protecting patients and staff from harmful pathogens.
