Kent R. Erickson

As a registered patent attorney with over 30 years of experience, Kent has handled all types of intellectual property matters including the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, registering trademarks and copyrights, preparing intellectual property related agreements, conducting patent and trademark searches and freedom to operate reviews, and handling claims of infringement for both the rights holders and accused infringers. Kent’s patent practice focuses on the mechanical and chemical arts and he has assembled a team to handle applications in most other fields, including electrical, computer and biological arts. Kent handles patent applications in a wide variety of industries with clients concentrated in the automotive, railroad maintenance, agricultural and turf maintenance equipment, towing, construction equipment and materials, exercise equipment and toys and novelties.

Kent has developed a network of firms in other countries to assist in protecting client’s intellectual property rights in those countries. Many of those firms trust Kent to assist in protecting their client’s intellectual property in the United States. Kent works closely with engineers and product designers, officers and owners of companies and in-house counsel in overseeing client’s intellectual property portfolios.

Kent has taken an active role in the legal community and was awarded the Legacy Award by the Lawyers Association of Kansas City in part for his effort in organizing an annual, half day continuing legal education program in the field of intellectual property law for the past 10 years. He has also been recognized by his peers through Super Lawyers as one of the top 50 lawyers in Kansas City and one of the top one hundred lawyers in the States of Kansas and Missouri.
